What is learner driver insurance

Learner driver insurance, or provisional insurance, allows you to drive you own car, a family members car such as your parents or even your friends car to help you get that much needed practise alongside your professional lessons.

Woop's flexible learner driver policy

  • You must be between the ages of 17 to 21 and hold a provisional UK driving licence
  • As a learner driver you must be accompanied by full UK licence holder aged over 25
  • The vehicle must be within the insurance groups 1 to 19
  • If you own the vehicle (policyholder), the maximum value of the car must not be more than £10,000 
  • If the vehcile is owned by the family member, the maximum value of the car must not be more than £20,000 
  • Vehicles that are insured elsewhere for the duration of the policy
  • In the event of a claim, your parents no claim bonus will be protected
  • Minimum compulsory excess of £250
  • Driving schools

What the Learner Car policy covers

  • Fully comprehensive cover
  • Parents can be added as named drivers (subject to terms)  
  • Legal costs and damages as a result of an accident
  • Third-party property damage and liability up to £20m
  • Loss or damage as a result of accidental damage, malicious damage and vandalism, fire, self-ignition, lightning, or explosion, and theft or attempted theft
  • Replacement vehicle equivelent to your model and specification if the cost of repairs exceed 60% of the market value  

For registered owners of the vehicle

  • Audio equipment up to 10% of the vehicle’s market value up to £500 (only applies to an annual policy)
  • Satellite navigation equipment up to £500
  • Glass and windscreen cover up to £1000 (only applies to an annual policy)
  • Personal belongings up to £100
  • Replacement locks and keys up to £300
  • Medical expenses up to £200 for each person injured in the vehicle

Limitations

For cover to be valid, you must be:

  • Receiving driving tuition or taking an official Driving Standards Agency (DSA) practical driving test
  • Accompanied by a full UK driving licence holder over the age of 25 which they have held for at least three years, or by a qaulified driving instructor or examiner
  • Using the car for pleasure and domestic purposes only
